Based on the hit Broadway musical, this story involves the rise to fame of "The Dreams" (Jennifer Hudson, Beyonce Knowles, and Anika Noni Rose) after they are discovered by Curtis Taylor Jr. (Jamie Foxx) who finds work for them as a backup band for James "Thunder" Early (Eddie Murphy). But, it doesn't take long for "The Dreams" to gain popularity and outshine "Thunder." The film received two Academy Awards, including Best Supporting Actress (Jennifer Hudson); six other nominations were received, including Best Supporting Actor (Eddie Murphy).

After a re-release of a 1960s film gains cult status, a TV executive, needing a hit show, decides to bring the three stars Kate Westbourne, Addie Holden, and Piper Grayson (Shirley MacLaine, Joan Collins, and Debbie Reynolds) together for a reunion special on TV. But the three stars dislike each other and always have. They all have the same agent, Beryl Mason (Elizabeth Taylor). Will she be able to convince them to make the special? Some funny lines here and there.
