Nineteen-year-old Rooney was nominated for a Best Actor Academy Award.

  As Father Edward J. Flanagan (Spencer Tracy) strives to set up a community for homeless boys, he runs into trouble with one boy, Whitey Marsh (Mickey Rooney), whose older brother (Edward Norris) is a gangster. Whitey runs away a number of times and finally manages to join his brother's gang. But, Father Flanagan and the boys capture the gang, and Whitey, at last, respects Father Flanagan's program and has hope for the future. Spencer Tracy won an Academy Award as Best Actor for his role in this film (his second consecutive Best Actor Oscar). Nominations were received for Best Picture and Director, and another Oscar was received for Best Original Story.

  The War of 1812 was already lost by us to the British when it's largest battle was fought, and won, by the United States. Jackson was assisted by pirate/patriot Jean Lafitte.

  Botanist Glendon (Henry Hull) is on a Tibetan expedition when he is bitten by a strange half-man, half-beast (werewolf). Back in London, he transforms into a werewolf during the full moon and terrorizes the city. During the day, he works on a cure (flowering of a Tibetan plant). This is the original werewolf film, predating Lon Chaney's by six years. Though dated, it is still good, and Warner Oland–as the werewolf who bit Glendon and is also after the cure–is particularly good.

  Partially based on fact, this film is an account of Bat Masterson's (Albert Dekker) experiences in Dodge City. When unable to get a job as a newspaper reporter, Bat becomes the marshal of the town. Bat falls in love with dance-hall girl Dora (Claire Trevor) who works hard behind the scenes to look after the welfare of the town's citizens. When Dora is gunned down by cattle baron King Kennedy (Barry Sullivan), Bat not only takes care of King but also honors Dora for her efforts to clean up the town. The film received an Academy Award nomination for Best Musical Score.
