The same night that Clay and Sam marry, he is told there is a heart for him, Dr. Larry Lupin (Christopher McDonald) administers the anesthesia, and the operation begins. But, the anesthesia is not working correctly, Clay can feel everything, and he learns that the doctors are going to kill him and take his money. Horror sets in for Clay in the operating room, while his new wife Sam struggles with her own decisions in the waiting room.

While visiting Rome, he meets another "jumper" Griffin (Jamie Bell), and David learns that he is not alone and that he is in the middle of a war between "jumpers" and "paladins."
