This bizarre thriller combines two homicide detectives, David Mills and William Summerset (Brad Pitt and Morgan Freeman), from different generations and races, who try to put an end to the crimes of a vicious serial killer who bases his murders on the Seven Deadly Sins. As the experienced detective, Summerset tries to get inside the mind of the killer by studying the Seven Deadly Sins. Mills is less experienced and does not understand Summerset's reasoning. Mad bomber Howard Payne (Dennis Hopper) attempts and fails to extort money from the city by holding elevator passengers hostage, but L.A. cop Jack Traven (Keanu Reeves) and his partner Harry Temple (Jeff Daniels) come to the rescue. Now, Howard seeks vengeance by planting a bomb on a city bus that will explode when the bus goes less than 50 mph if Howard does not receive $3.7 million. In an effort to save the passengers, Jack boards the bus and tries to save all–especially the beautiful driver (Sandra Bullock). Oscars were won for Best Sound and Sound Effects.
