  This animated version of Batman/Bruce Wayne (voice of Kevin Conroy) begins with the Phantasm, a vicious killer who has killed a crime lord in Gotham City. Police and gangsters suspect that the killer is Batman, and now it is up to Batman to find the real culprit. Meanwhile, Bruce Wayne is entertaining Councilman Arthur Reeves (voice of Hart Bochner) who is responsible for the accusations about Batman, and he taunts Wayne about his long-lost love, college sweetheart Andrea (Dana Delany), who left him years before. Now, the story skips back-and-forth between the present and the past, and, in the process, Batman discovers a link between Andrea and the crime villain. The Joker (Mark Hamill) steps in and uncovers the fact that Andrea is the Phantasm, and she is out to avenge her father's (Stacey Keach) murder. Batman arrives on the scene, a battle ensues, and Batman's name is cleared.

  Ernest Hemmingway's novel is brought to the screen with George C. Scott in the role of wealthy Thomas Hudson, an artist in self-exile on the island of Bimini in the Bahamas during 1940. World War II is threatening when Thomas' oldest son Tom (Hart Bochner) arrives on the island. Their relationship grows closer, but then Tom leaves to fight for the RAF. Later, Thomas' ex-wife Audrey (Claire Bloom) arrives and tells Thomas that Tom was killed in the war. The news causes Thomas to change his opinions about the war and his lifestyle. He agrees to smuggle Jewish refugees onto his "perfect" island.

Despondent, he goes into a bar and tells his problems to the bartender (Michael Caine), who mixes a potion, and Larry walks out into the world that he would have experienced had he made that hit. He finds that all is not perfect in that world, either.

The conductor, Carne (Ben Johnson) tries to calm things down, but it is a train ride destined to be filled with terror.
