Meanwhile, Bruce Wayne is entertaining Councilman Arthur Reeves (voice of Hart Bochner) who is responsible for the accusations about Batman, and he taunts Wayne about his long-lost love, college sweetheart Andrea (Dana Delany), who left him years before. Now, the story skips back-and-forth between the present and the past, and, in the process, Batman discovers a link between Andrea and the crime villain. The Joker (Mark Hamill) steps in and uncovers the fact that Andrea is the Phantasm, and she is out to avenge her father's (Stacey Keach) murder. Batman arrives on the scene, a battle ensues, and Batman's name is cleared.

Later, Thomas' ex-wife Audrey (Claire Bloom) arrives and tells Thomas that Tom was killed in the war. The news causes Thomas to change his opinions about the war and his lifestyle. He agrees to smuggle Jewish refugees onto his "perfect" island.

Despondent, he goes into a bar and tells his problems to the bartender (Michael Caine), who mixes a potion, and Larry walks out into the world that he would have experienced had he made that hit. He finds that all is not perfect in that world, either.
