Robert Cain Sr. (Edward Arnold) is a wealthy broker who is convicted of embezzlement and sent to jail. His upstanding son, Bob (Tyrone Power), is ashamed of his father and changes his name. After relenting, Bob decides to try to get his father released, but that takes money and means working for mobster Mickey Dwyer (Lloyd Nolan). Bob uses the alias of "Johnny Apollo" and hooks up with Mickey, but both end up in the same jail as Bob's father. All the problems get worked out, and Bob even wins the heart of Mickey's daughter Lucky Dubarry (Dorothy Lamour).
