  In this World War II saga, British officer Capt. Terence Stevenson (Robert Donat) is assigned the spy mission of sabotaging a Nazi-run poison gas factory in Czechoslovakia. He uses the alias "Tartu" and gets a job in the factory as an assembly line foreman where dangers await. Based on a true story.

  In this second episode of the series, Dr. Kildare (Lew Ayres) is sent to a clinic by his gruff mentor, Dr. Gillespie (Lionel Barrymore). Kildare gets in trouble when he removes a bullet from a suspected murderer at the request of the patient's beautiful sister (Lana Turner). But Dr. Kildare believes the man is innocent and sets out to prove it.

A simple operation fixes the problem, and the wedding plans continue.

Dr. Lane also vies for the attention of Dr. Kildares's girlfriend (Laraine Day). Dr. Kildare gets to the bottom of the problem in an episode that hit it big in 1940 for its graphic depiction of hospital procedures.

Laraine Day was on the way up and the studio (MGM) decided to end her role on the Kildare films.

He gets in trouble right away when he is blamed for the death of an important politician. The wheel-chair-bound Dr. Gillespie helps prove Kildare's innocence and, by story's end, becomes his mentor.
