Stillwell does know that danger lurks and seeks help from private eye Ted Caselle (Walter Matthau) who doesn't appear to believe that Stillwell has a problem–and then Caselle is murdered. The plot twists and turns as Stillwell finds himself the intended victim in a series of murder attempts. Remade in 1968 as "Jigsaw."

Racial tensions result from the sheriff's action, and when the number of car thefts increases, the tensions also increase. A good made-for-TV film.
