  While working in a hospital's intensive care unit where ethics have hit an all-time low, Dr. Werner Ernst (James Spader) deals with life and death when he comes to the aid of sisters Felicia (Kyra Sedgwick) and Constance (Margo Martindale). Their father is in a comatose state, and one sister wants to pull the plug while the other sister demands that their father be kept alive. Ernst must decide between the hospital's callous world and a cry for humanitarian help.
