He enlists Ackerman's help even though Ackerman has issues of his own including an unhappy girlfriend Sarah (Lara Flynn Boyle) and his estranged father Eugene (Tom Skerritt). Finally, when Pulovski is kidnapped by the murderers, it falls on Ackerman to solve the case and rescue his partner.
