The Cannonball Run 1981 PG, 95 min. Genre: Comedy

This is another Hal Needham/Burt Reynolds predictable story about beer-drinking rednecks who, this time, participate in a coast-to-coast car race. Old story, old gags.

| | Filmed at Edwards AFB | Anonymous 08/04/2009 | Parts of the Hanger scenes were filmed at Edwards AFB in California.
I was stationed there when this was being filmed. In the movie there
is a tour of the different levels, the actor says
"the ground level is our weapons ready area",
and this is inside a hanger at Edwards AFB. You can see an F-111 painted black
with a guy working on a stand at the right wing leading edge, and actress
Persis Kambatta says "That's Russian, It's their very latest top secret."
You can see Edwards AFB A-7 aircraft in the background of this scene, but
the ED on the tails is covered up. |

Smokey and the Bandit 1977 PG, 96 min. Genre: Comedy
Director: Hal Needham Cast: Burt Reynolds, Sally Field, Jerry Reed, Jackie Gleason, Mike Henry, Paul Williams, Pat McCormick, Alfie Wise, Macon McCalman, George Reynolds
This movie is fun! Bandit (Burt Reynolds) and Cledus (Jerry Reed) are illegally delivering a truckload of Coors beer from Texas to Atlanta. It does not take long for the police to be hot on their trail. Along the way, Bandit picks up Carrie (Sally Field) who is escaping from her own wedding, and she joins in the thrill of the race. Jackie Gleason plays the frustrated sheriff in pursuit. The stunts are fast and furious.

Smokey and the Bandit II 1980 PG, 101 min. Genre: Comedy
Director: Hal Needham Cast: Burt Reynolds, Jackie Gleason, Jerry Reed, Dom DeLuise, Sally Field, Paul Williams, Pat McCormick, David Huddleston, Mike Henry, Mel Tillis
This sequel to "Smokey and the Bandit" again features Burt Reynolds as Bandit and Jackie Gleason as Sheriff Buford T. Justice. In this story, Bandit is hired to transport an expectant elephant to the Republican Convention. Not a great follow-on to the original hit.

The Villain 1979 PG, 93 min. Genre: Western
Director: Hal Needham Cast: Kirk Douglas, Ann - Margret, Arnold Schwarzenegger, Paul Lynde, Strother Martin, Ruth Buzzi, Jack Elam, Foster Brooks, Robert Tessier, Mel Tillis
In this very funny flick the bad guy, Cactus Jack (Kirk Douglas), just cannot manage to get the attention of Charming Jones (Ann-Margret) who has her sights set on Handsome Stranger (Arnold Schwarzenegger) who is too innocent for his own good. Panned by many, this reviewer thinks this live-action roadrunner film is just what you need when you want to relax and have fun and a few laughs.
