Teen-aged Benjamin (Michael Angarano) is home-schooled by his mother Judith (Jennifer Coolidge) and is a loner who has written a manuscript "Yeast Lords" featuring a hero, Bronco (Sam Rockwell). While attending a writers camp, Benjamin meets Tabatha (Halley Feiffer) and Lonnie (Hector Jimenez). They offer Benjamin $300 for the manuscript so Lonnie can make a film of it. Meanwhile, at a sci-fest, Benjamin submits his manuscript to Dr. Chevalier (Jermaine Clement) who steals it for himself. Chevalier changes the name of Bronco to Brutus (also Sam Rockwell) and alters many of the details. Interspersed with the story, the three versions of Benjamin's story are shown, and then, finally, Benjamin confronts Chevalier and accuses him of plagiarism.

Margot makes no pretense of hiding the fact that she does not like anything nor anyone connected with Pauline's wedding. The sisters argue, past secrets are revealed, and resulting tensions threaten Pauline's relationship with her fiance Malcolm (Jack Black). As family relationships deteriorate, will the sisters find anything to bring about a peaceful solution to their problems?

Sixteen-year-old Stephanie Daley (Amber Tamblyn) gives birth in the ladies' room during a school ski trip. Later, when the fetus is discovered dead, and, although she claims the baby was stillborn, Stephanie faces murder charges. Forensic psychologist Lydie Crane (Tilda Swinton) is assigned to meet with Stephanie to determine whether or not she is telling the truth. During their sessions Lydie, who is pregnant, deals with her own guilt about a previous pregnancy that ended in a stillbirth as well as her confused feelings about the baby she is now carrying.
