In 1976, British expatriate Steven Spurrier (Alan Rickman), now living in Paris where he owns a wine shop, sets up a wine competition. Having heard about California wines, Spurrier researches the wineries there and finds Jim Barret's (Bill Pullman) winery, Chateau Montelana. Jim's hippie son Bo (Chris Pine) isn't very interested in the family business, but Jim agrees to enter the contest, despite being suspicious that the contest is rigged in favor of the French. He brings his wine to Paris–and the rest is history when Napa Valley gains its reputation worldwide as a superior wine region. Based on a true story.
