Jacobi (Gunnar Bjorstrand) offers to have them released if Eva will have sex with him. Eva obliges, but more traumas and shame follow until Eva and Jan leave their home hoping for shelter on another island nearby.

Then, a teenager Sara (also played by Andersson) asks for a ride, and she joins Isak and Marianne along with a crotchety couple. Through his new acquaintances, Isak reflects on his own disappointments in life. A Bergman classic.
