As luck would have it, Bennett ends up having to make the decision between two men–one she loves but is a poor cotton barge owner (Joel McCrea) and the other the wealthy Paige (John Halliday). Some good laughs in this comedy/drama.

That event begins a chain of events that leads to Godfrey becoming part of the Bullock household where he serves as their butler and tries to straighten out the pretentious Bullock family members. Six Academy Award nominations were received, including Best Actor (Powell), Actress (Lombard), Supporting Actor and Actress (Mischa Auer and Alice Brady), and Director.
