Cheryl Ladd portrays Grace Kelly in this very tame version of the life of the actress-turned-princess. Kelly's family sanctioned the script; while mildly entertaining, the story is not always true to life.

Retired jewel thief John Robie (Cary Grant), now living on the French Riviera, is suspected of returning to his former profession. He sets out to prove his innocence, and, with the aid of detective H.H. Hughson (John Williams), he checks out the Riviera vacationers. Among the wealthy tourists are Jessie Stephens (Jessie Royce Landis) and her daughter Frances (Grace Kelly). John meets Frances, and Frances is attracted to him, but John has no time for romance. When Jessie's jewels are stolen, Frances steers the police in John's direction, but then the chemistry between Frances and John heats up, and love is definitely in the air. Now, Jessie is so much in love with John that she does not seem to care whether or not John is really a jewel thief.
