This story shows how Hoover names Dillinger the first "Public Enemy Number One" and assigns top F.B.I. agent Melvin Purvis (Christian Bale) to use any means necessary to end the crime wave. Spielberg won his second Director Oscar, and nominations included Best Picture and Actor (Tom Hanks). In all, the film won five Oscars and was nominated for six others.
