Les Liaisons Dangereuses   1959     2 and a half stars    N/R, 104 min.

Director: Roger Vadim
Cast: Jeanne Moreau, Gerard Philipe, Annette Vadim, Jeanne Valerie, Jean-Louis Trintignant, Simone Renant, Boris Vian, Nicolas Vogel, Frederick O'Brady, Gillian Hills, Madeleine Lambert, Paquita Thomas

In this update of Laclos' 18th-century novel, a married couple (Jeanne Moreau and Gerard Philipe) is forever looking for fun, excitement, and sex (with others, but innocent, of course). It does a good job of catching the mood of the late 1950s France and was later remade in the U.S. as "Valmont" (1989) and "Dangerous Liaisons" (1988).
