Millionaire John Hammond (Richard Attenborough) is ready to open a dinosaur theme park where scientists have used DNA from extinct dinosaurs to create present-day clones. Hammond invites dinosaur experts Dr. Alan Grant (Sam Neill) and Dr. Ellie Sattler (Laura Dern), along with scientist Ian Malcolm (Jeff Goldblum) and Hammond's grandchildren Lex and Joe (Ariana Richards and Joseph Mazzello) to preview the park prior to its opening. While they are touring the park, the security system is broken into, and the man-eating dinosaurs break free turning their delightful day at the park into just the opposite. Plenty of action and thrills with Oscar-winning visual and sound effects.

This film won the Academy Award for Best Picture in its depiction of autistic savant Raymond Babbitt (Dustin Hoffman) whose brother Charlie (Tom Cruise) wants part of a huge inheritance from which he has been omitted. To this end, Charlie takes his brother on a trip while he threatens the guardian with a court fight for half of the inheritance. Barry Levinson also won an Oscar for Best Director, as did Hoffman for Best Actor.
