  When a New England priest is murdered, John Waldron (Arthur Kennedy) is arrested. He is beaten into confessing that he is the killer and then tried for the crime. Based on the true story of a 1924 murder case that is still unsolved, the film follows State's Attorney Henry Harvey (Dana Andrews) as he works to sort out the facts.

  This version of the Broadway musical production, based on the life of Louise "Gypsy Rose Lee" Hovick, stars Natalie Wood in the title role. Gypsy's mother, Mama Rose (Rosalind Russell), always wanted fame but never achieved it. So, she is determined to make vaudeville stars of her daughters June (Ann Jillian) and Louise. June bails out leaving an unwilling Louise to do Mama Rose's bidding. Vaudeville is on the wane, but Louise does get a booking in a burlesque house where she finds stardom as stripper "Gypsy Rose Lee." Songs include "Everything's Coming Up Roses," "Let Me Entertain You," and "All I Need Is a Girl." The film received Academy Award nominations for Best Music, Cinematography, and Costume Design.

  Cattle rancher Hud (Paul Newman) wants profits in oil and tries to talk his father (Melvyn Douglas) into turning the ranch into an oil field. Alma (Patricia Neal) watches as Hud tries to coerce his father and tries to ward him off when Hud drunkenly propositions her. Neal won the Best Actress Oscar, and Douglas won for Best Supporting Actor. The film also won for Cinematography and received for other nominations, including Best Actor and Director.
