  Marie (Simone Simon) is a student at a Swiss finishing school who falls in love with headmaster Dr. Stephen Dominik (Herbert Marshall). When confronted with the letter, Marie tells Anna that it was written to an imaginary lover. Anna has been secretly in love with Stephen for years, and many problems lie ahead before Stephen marries. By story's end, will he marry Anna or Marie?
