This Dr. Seuss tale is brought to the screen in the story of 10-year-old Bart Collins (Tommy Rettig) who much prefers playing baseball and spending time with his dog than practicing the piano. One night, Bart has a nightmare in which he stumbles into the castle of his piano teacher (Hans Conried)–now named Dr. T.–who has kidnapped 500 young boys and is forcing them to practice the piano 24 hours a day, all week long. Even worse, Bart discovers that Dr. T. has hypnotized Bart's mother (Mary Healy), and she is now his helpmate. Bart is determined to put an end to Dr. T.'s "school" and to save his mother, and with help from a plumber (Peter Lind Hayes), Bart succeeds in rescuing them all.

But Erik is captured by the Germans and, after brutal torture, reveals the plans. Some good action footage in this "Guns of Navarone"-inspired film.

But, Sammy is not interested in the arranged marriage and is in love with Linda Low (Nancy Kwan) who happens to be romantically involved with Wang Ta (James Shigeta). Through comedy and music, lovers are sorted out, and, by story's end, Mei Li and Wang Ta have found romance. Songs include "I Enjoy Being a Girl," "Love Look Away," and "You Are Beautiful."

Although happy while entertaining on stage, Delphine and Solange lack romance in their real lives. Now, the town's annual fair attracts new romantic possibilities in the form of painter Maxence (Jacques Perrin) and tourist Andy Miller (Gene Kelly) as songs and dancing fill the screen.
