Working as a switchboard operator, Kitty Taylor (Ann Sothern) has been supporting her family–Pa and Ma Taylor (Spencer Charters and Jane Darwell) and siblings Freddie (Mickey Rooney and Flora (Joan Gale)–since Pa lost his job more than a year ago. She is engaged to poor mechanic Bill (Paul Kelly) but dumps him when wealthy Bob (Neil Hamilton) finds her a job as a model for his father's department store. When Bill gives Pa a job at his garage, Ma tries to convince Kitty to go back to him because he has helped the family. Now, Kitty realizes that she is confused about who she should spend her life with and goes back and forth in her decisions before deciding who the right man really is.
