Nine-year-old Christy Cooper's (Billy Chapin) father Larry "Pop" Cooper (Dan Dailey) once played big-league baseball but is now hawking peanuts during the games. Christy gets a job as batboy and starts giving game-winning tips to team member Pete Haines (Lloyd Bridges). Of course, Christy is getting his hints from his dad, but, as a publicity stunt, he is named manager of the team. All goes well until Christy gets sick, but his dad comes to the rescue.
