After his release from jail, jewel thief Frank (James Caan) wants to settle down and marry Jessie (Tuesday Weld), but he needs money to support her. Frank plots one last heist with crime boss Leo (Robert Prosky), and with help from his friend Barry (James Belushi), Frank robs a Los Angeles vault. But, he then finds that it is not easy to break away from Leo, and Frank's plans for a future with Jessie are threatened.
