The romance and marriage of singer Bobby Darin and actress Sandra Dee is the subject of this Kevin Spacey biopic in which Spacey does a good job of recreating Darin's vocal style. The story begins when seven-year-old Bobby (William Ulrich)–who is being raised in the home of his mother Polly (Brenda Blethyn), his sister Nina (Caroline Aaron), and Nina's husband Charlie (Bob Hoskins)–gets rheumatic fever, but, with their care, he survives. Later, Bobby (Spacey) works his way up in the entertainment world and becomes a star. He meets Sandra Dee (Kate Bosworth), and, despite her mother Mary's (Greta Scacchi) objections, they marry. All goes well–until conflicts of Sandra's acting career and Bobby's touring cause strains on their relationship.
