| | geoff 03/10/2007 | The cast list omits one imporant star - Conchita Supervia - a glorious Spanish mezzo soprano who died much too young, a couple of years after this film was made. This is the only film footage of her.
This film is based on a novel by Beverley Nicholls which is a thinly disguised portrait of Dame Nellie Melba. Supervia plays a young up-and-coming singer who exlipses the ageing prima donna. In real life Supervia was ten years older than Laye but the make-up was very effective. |
