But, Father Flanagan and the boys capture the gang, and Whitey, at last, respects Father Flanagan's program and has hope for the future. Spencer Tracy won an Academy Award as Best Actor for his role in this film (his second consecutive Best Actor Oscar). Nominations were received for Best Picture and Director, and another Oscar was received for Best Original Story.
