Broadway star Frances (Ann Sothern) goes to Rio to prepare for her next show, and her daughter Nancy (Jane Powell) follows. Frances doesn't know that 17-year-old Nancy has been hired to appear in her show, and problems develop when rumors have Nancy rehearsing for Frances' role. As if that were not enough, rumors also mistakenly tell that Nancy is pregnant. Then to complete the problems, Frances and Nancy both fall for leading man Paul Berten (Barry Sullivan). Songs include "Time and Time Again" and "Shine on Harvest Moon."
