Eighteen-year-old philosophy student Laura (Fanny Valette) lives in her sister Mathilde's (Elsa Zylberstein) apartment with Mathilde's husband, Ariel (Bruno Todeschini), their four children, and her mother (Sonia Tahar). The home is located in the suburban Paris neighborhood known as "Little Jerusalem" because of its large Jewish population. But, Laura is not into her family's religious fervor, which has damaged Mathilde's marital relationship with Ariel, and she really is not into the dating scene–until she meets Djamel (Hedi Tillette de Clermont-Tonnerre).

The Lady and the Duke 2001 PG-13, 125 min. Genre: Foreign / Drama
Director: Eric Rohmer Cast: Lucy Russell, Jean-Claude Dreyfus, Francois Marthouret, Alain Libolt, Leonard Cobiant, Caroline Morin, Helena Dubiel, Charlotte Very, Rosette, Laurent Le Doyen
Based on the memoirs of Grace Elliott (Lucy Russell)–the ex-mistress of Le duc Philippe d'Orleans–this tale of the French Revolution, as seen through her eyes, is brought to the screen by director Eric Rohmer who uses digital effects and inserts the actors into painted backgrounds. Fascinating.
