Two other Oscars were received (Best Writing and Musical Score), and the film was nominated for Best Picture.

They stumble onto an oasis where they hope to find rest, but snipers begin to pick off the men, and the religious ranting of Sanders (Boris Karloff) fills their ears. Finally, only two men remain alive–Sergeant Morelli (Wallace Ford) and Sanders–and the desperate fight for survival continues. Another John Ford masterpiece with interesting characters.

A white gorilla (Frank Merrill, from the 1927 film) is snubbed by the black gorillas because he is white. This makes him sad and angry, but he will soon fight to save the African continent. To make matters worse, the gorilla costumes don't fit all that well.
