| | Would make a great parody | El Groggo 02/17/2007 | | This movie is so dreadful that it's hypnotic. I kept watching it because I really thought it HAD to be a parody of sexual mores in the '90s. But apparently this guy (Schaeffer) is serious. If this movie was even sexy, I could forgive it. Nah. The 'writing' (you should excuse the expression) is so embarrassing that I began to appreciate my 10-year-old daughter's attempts at idyllic poetry. I kept wondering: how this guy even got this film made, who financed it, and why NO ONE, apparently, told him how awful and ridiculously unbelievable it was. There are tremendous talents out there who just can't get a break, and this DRECK (probably too good a word for it) passes the test. Don't get it. |

The Great Gatsby 2001 TV, 94 min. Genre: Drama
Director: Robert Markowitz Cast: Toby Stephens, Mira Sorvino, Paul Rudd, Martin Donovan, Francie Swift, Heather Goldenhersh, Matt Malloy, William Camp, Richard Jutras, Jerry Grayson
F. Scott Fitzgerald's classic tragedy is brought to the screen (originally the TV screen) again. This time Toby Stephens takes on the title role of the poor man who uses shady means to amass a fortune in order to win back his love (Mira Sorvino) who is strictly "upper crust." Beautifully photographed.
