A clever diamond-smuggling operation is going on across the Mexican border. A mare has a specially made horseshoe that holds the diamonds. The mare runs off, a smuggler is killed, Trigger is blamed, Roy Rogers confesses in order to save Trigger, Trigger becomes the smuggler, the mare gives birth to Trigger's offspring, Roy uses the offspring (Trigger Jr.) to get the smugglers (after legally getting out of jail, of course).
