Toralv Maurstad plays the Norwegian composer Edvard Grieg who is living in poverty when he marries his cousin Nina (Florence Henderson). As he finds success as a composer in Rome, Grieg realizes that he misses long-suffering Nina and Norway, and he returns to his homeland.
