In the Time of the Butterflies 2001 PG-13, 96 min. Genre: Drama
Director: Mariano Barroso Cast: Salma Hayek, Edward James Olmos, Lumi Cavazos, Mia Maestro, Pilar Padilla, Marc Anthony, Demian Bichir, Fernando Becerril, Ana Martin, Anthony Alvarez
This made-for-cable TV film is based on Julia Alvarez's novel, which was based on the true story of three sisters who resisted the rule of Rafael Leonidas Trujillo, the despotic ruler of the Dominican Republic. In 1960, the sisters' bodies were found on the coast of the Dominican Republic after they had been fighting Trujillo's regime since their father had been killed. This is their story, though it is little more than a showcase for Salma Hayek.
