  After an extended separation from his wealthy family, California oil rigger Bobby Eroica Dupea (Jack Nicholson) returns to Puget Sound to visit his ailing father Nicholas (William Challee) with his pregnant girlfriend Rayette (Karen Black) in tow. Bobby cannot stand the atmosphere in his family's upper-class mansion and seduces his uptight brother Carl's (Ralph Waite) fiancee Catherine (Susan Anspach). Now pulled between Rayette and Catherine and his family, Bobby cannot decide which way to go and simply runs away from it all. Several Oscar nominations were received including Best Picture, Actor (Nicholson), and Supporting Actress (Black).

Vampire hunters believe that Ralph is the vampire and want to kill him; however, with help from Professor Leopold McCarthy (David Warner), Jeremy saves Ralph and even ends up with a new girlfriend, Darla Blake (Cheryl Pollak).

When he meets Mary Tate Farnsworth (Sally Field) and Joe Santo (Arnold Schwarzenegger) at the gym, he finds depth to their lives of working and staying fit. This causes him to leave his wealthy friends behind and finds a new life through physical work. An OK comedy/drama.
