The final 12 hours and crucifixion of Jesus Christ are depicted in this film, which begins with Jesus (James Caviezel) praying after the Last Supper. Jesus has been betrayed by Judas (Luca Lionello) and is condemned to death. He is brought before Pontius Pilate (Hristo Shopov) for sentencing. He is severely beaten and forced to carry his cross to the hill near Jerusalem where he is crucified, dies, and is buried but resurrects from the dead on the third day. The film received three Academy Award nominations.
