The lives of college students Scott (Kiefer Sutherland) and Ralph (Robert Downey, Jr.) are affected by the Vietnam War. Scott's Marine Corps brother is killed in the war. Ralph is arrested for breaking into his draft office to steal his file in order to avoid being drafted. Meanwhile, Ralph's sister Beth (Winona Ryder) uses her valedictory speech to protest the war and then joins Scott to protest the war in this shallow look at the effects of war in 1969.
