Adventuresome artist Laura Reynolds (Elizabeth Taylor) is raising her out-of-wedlock teenage son Danny (Morgan Mason) and wants to educate him herself. Now, a love triangle between pious Dr. Hewitt, his wife Claire (Eva Marie Saint), and Laura ensues, which leads to Hewitt quitting his job and renewing his faith.
