  This film includes important European competitions and follows the exploits of various drivers both on and off the track, which include affairs between Jean-Pierre Sarte (Yves Montand) and Louise Frederickson (Eva Marie Saint) and Nino Barlini (Antonio Sabato) and Lisa (Francoise Hardy). At the same time, while Grand Prix driver Pete Aron (James Garner) recovers from a crash at Monaco in which his teammate Scott Stoddard (Brian Bedford) was critically injured, Pete becomes involved with Scott's estranged wife, Pat (Jessica Walter). Adding more changes to his life, Pete begins to drive for the Japanese Yamura team. Racing footage is good with many shots taken inches from the track.

Things get even meaner when another bad guy blinds Blade (by burying him up to his neck and sewing Blade's eyes open). But Blade is saved by Burt, who Blade freed after not being able to get a reward. After learning to shoot by sound rather than sight, Blade gets his revenge.

Their mission: rescue Italian Gen. Quadri (Enzo Fiermonte) from prison in Dubrovnik so that he can convince his troops to turn against their German allies and help end the war. They complete their mission only to find that the "General" is an imposter, and that is only one of the problems that will ultimately result in only one surviving convict.
