  Once again, Boston Blackie (Chester Morris) works to clear his name. This time around, Blackie tells his sidekick The Runt (George E. Stone) to take his ex-girlfriend Gerry Peyton (Lynn Merrick) and her baby away from the crime scene where her husband has been killed while Blackie was calling Inspector Farraday (Richard Lane) for assistance. Later, Gerry tells the police that Blackie shot her husband as part of a scheme to extort money from her husband's wealthy family. Blackie and The Runt investigate and learn that Gerry is the one planning to extort the money. Now they must bring proof to Inspector Farraday who, it turns out, is only trying to teach Blackie a lesson about being careful when picking girlfriends.

Ray Milland: "Most men lead lives of quiet desperation. I can't take quiet desperation." This film also won the Best Picture Academy Award, as did Billy Wilder for his directing and writing.

They travel to New England and learn that Ananka's soul has been taken over by an exchange student, Amina Mansouri (also played by Ames), who is studying with Egyptologist Norman (Frank Reicher) and has a boyfriend Tommy (Robert Lowery). Kharis stalks Amina, and when he learns that Yousef Bey is in love with his princess, he kills him. Now, with his reincarnated princess in his arms, the Mummy sinks into a bog and disappears. Followed by "The Mummy's Curse."

When "Red" learns about the romance from stoolie "Sailor Boy" Hansen (Joe Sawyer), he plots his escape. It works, and he appears at May's apartment and shoots at and wounds Jameson–only to be gunned down on his way to surrender.
