Then, he defends William Jackson (Paul Guilfoyle) on a murder charge, wins his freedom, but then is murdered by Jackson. His plan has backfired, but evidence points to Lucile and Dr. Anderson as the murderers. When they are arrested, Anderson kills himself. That act leaves Lucille–who has been left destitute by Martin's will–all alone in the world.
