The Squaw Man 1918 N/R, 65 min. Genre: Western
Director: Cecil B. DeMille Cast: Elliott Dexter, Ann Little, Katherine MacDonald, Jack Holt, Thurston Hall, Tully Marshall, Herbert Standing, Noah Beery, Pat Moore, Helen Dunbar
This is the second filming (of three) of this Cecil B. DeMille story about Jim Wynnegate (Elliott Dexter) who takes the rap for his cousin on an embezzlement charge and leaves England for Wyoming. There he saves the life of an Indian girl (Ann Little) from the clutches of villain Cash Hawkins (Jack Holt). After Wynnegate marries her, his cousin's wife, Diana (Katherine MacDonald), arrives with the news that the cousin is dead. Knowing that Jim took the rap because he loved Diana, his wife commits suicide to allow Jim and Diana to reunite, which is what they do. They head back to England where he assumes the position of Earl of Kerhill. A better film than the earlier one, showing the beginnings of DeMille's desire to make extravaganzas.
