Dante's Peak 1997 PG-13, 112 min. Genre: Action
Director: Roger Donaldson Cast: Pierce Brosnan, Linda Hamilton, Jamie Renee Smith, Jeremy Foley, Elizabeth Hoffman, Charles Hallahan, Arabella Field, Tzi Ma, Lee Garlington, Grant Heslov, Kirk Trutner, Brian Reddy, Bill Bolender, Carole Androsky, Peter Jason
This volcano-disaster film features Pierce Brosnan as the scientist, Harry Dalton, who finds evidence that the mountaintop is about to blow. He tries to warn neighboring citizens to get off Dante's Peak because their lives are threatened, and–of course–few will heed his advice. Linda Hamilton plays the town's mayor, Rachel Wando, and also, of course, becomes the romantic interest of Harry. Great special effects!

The River Wild 1994 PG-13, 108 min. Genre: Action / Thriller
Director: Curtis Hanson Cast: Meryl Streep, Kevin Bacon, David Strathairn, Joseph Mazzello, John C. Reilly, William Lucking, Elizabeth Hoffman, Victor Galloway, Benjamin Bratt, Glenn Morshower
Gail (Meryl Streep) and Tom (David Strathairn) try to solve their marital problems by taking son Roarke (Joseph Mazzello) on a rafting trip in Montana. Along the way, they become entangled with robbers on the run who aren't afraid to kill. The climax is a daring attempt to run "the gauntlet", a VERY dangerous white water run. Predictable clone of "Deliverance" with good photography.
