WHY CAN'T HOLLYWOOD MAKE DECENT MOVIES LIKE THIS ONE. NO WONDER I REFUSE TO SPEND A SINGLE CENT TO GO TO THE MOVIES. Director Terrence Malick came out of retirement after 20 years to make this adaptation of James Jones' 1962 novel about the battle for Guadalcanal during World War II. He focuses on the officers and enlisted men of Charlie Company who are ordered to invade the South Pacific island and then to deal with the horrors of jungle fighting. Academy Award nominations included Best Picture and Director.
