  Based on a stage play, this is the story of Sinead (Elaine Cassidy) and Darren (Cillian Murphy), known as "Runt" and "Pig," respectively, who were born in an Irish hospital moments apart. Throughout their lives they have been inseparable. They also play mean tricks on people, and Darren has a decidedly violent streak. Now, in their later teens, the bond is challenged.

The children suffer photosensitivity, which causes allergies to sunlight. They must live under rules that ensure darkness in their surroundings. All goes well until Grace hires new servants (Finnula Flanagan, Eric Sykes, and Elaine Cassidy). Shortly after the servants arrive, it becomes obvious that there are "other beings" also residing in the house. Spooky!

Meanwhile, Blake tries to come to terms with the present and the conflicts both he and Arthur have endured in their relationship.
