In his spare time, watchmaker Hawkins (Alastair Sim) is a professional assassin. He is hired to kill Sir Gregory Upshoot (Raymond Huntley) and tracks him to the run-down seaside Green Man hotel, but vacuum cleaner salesman William Blake (George Cole) catches on to Hawkins' plot and is determined to save Sir Gregory.
