  After her rocker husband (Kevin Bacon) dies, musician Delia Byrd (Kyra Sedgwick) packs up her rebellious daughter Cissy (Regan Arnold) and returns to her Southern town to begin life anew with the now-teenage daughters–Dede (April Mullen) and Amanda (Vanessa Zima)–who she abandoned years ago. But the girls now live with ex-husband Clint's (Aidan Quinn) mother (Jackie Burroughs), and Delia must find courage to deal with once-abusive Clint if she wants to see her daughters.

The first eight years are fine; however, as that eighth birthday approaches warning signs mount.
