In the tradition of "Airplane!" and "Naked Gun," this film is a spoof on another movie, in this case "Backdraft." The main difference is that this movie is not funny, though it crudely tries to be. Jeremy Jackson (Josh Mosby) is the only male fireman in an all-female fire department. Then fires break out in toilets, and the old fire marshal (Robert Mitchum) investigates. Jeremy uncovers the culprit, "The Most Evil Man" (Telly Savalas).

Jackson) is assigned to the case, he barricades the Armstrong project, and racial tensions erupt between the Gannon and Armstrong residents in this psychological mystery pointing out that racial prejudice still prevails in parts of America today.

David has just returned from a failed effort as a movie director in Hollywood and meets an old high-school classmate, Judy, an aspiring actress about to leave town to make it big. Meanwhile, Sue and Arthur start an affair while depressed, whining Alice ponders life. Though all of the characters have problems, the film works well as a fine mood piece, much of which takes place in the semi-darkness of the eclipse. Remarkable black and white photography, and the last film appearance by the late Madeline Kahn.
