  Winnie Slade (Jeff Donnell) and Bill Layden (Larry Parks) buy Professor Billings' (Boris Karloff) old New England home with plans to convert it into an inn. Billings is allowed to stay in the home, but Slade is unaware that, to help with the war effort, Billings (Boris Karloff) plans to turn corpses into supermen who will fight for the Allies in World War II. When Slade discovers corpses in the cellar, she calls in the local sheriff, Doctor Lorentz (Peter Lorre), who sees this as a chance to make money and does not arrest Billings. And that's just the beginning of a list of eccentric characters who fill this story.
